We regularly send up different animals for testing, mostly bats and only a few of those come back positive for rabies...
However in the last week 2 SKUNKS TESTED POSITIVE FOR RABIES BOTH OCCURRING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO EACH OTHER.
This was in Stamford in the area of the Oaklawn cemetery.
One was typical - dogs going after a skunk in the yard.
the other very unusual in that the skunk attacked a person without warning.
There have been a number of other reports of unusual skunk behavior, but none have been positive so far.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL AROUND SKUNKS - THEY SHOULD BE ACTIVE ONLY AT NIGHT AND IF THEY SHOW UP DURING THE DAY ANIMAL CONTROL (POLICE) SHOULD BE CALLED IMMEDIATELY!

I have been an expert witness for environmental issues in various legal proceedings and my research and the information has influenced policy makers on all levels of government.
Finally, I have my Environmental R.S. License.

My work has not been confined to analytical chemistry or the environment since I deal with microbiology, entomology and epidemiology and a daily basis. I have worked with the Centers for disease Control (CDC), The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), The Environmental Protection agency (USEPA) and various Connecticut State Environmental and Health Agencies in each of their areas of expertise, The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES), The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Aquaculture and the Department of Health.
